About twelve years ago, I invested in a new boiler for my home. This type of heating system has definitely added value to my property, and saves me a tremendous amount of money. Because the boiler uses water to generate heat, it is entirely clean, silent and safe. It does not introduce contaminants, such as dust and bacteria, into the breathing air. The water heats up faster and more efficiently than a forced air system, and the heat is infused rather than blow into the home. Because of this, there are less temperature fluctuations and a more even comfort from floor to ceiling. The boiler itself is quite compact, extremely energy efficient, and wonderful versatile. In the majority of rooms, there are baseboard heaters. In the kitchen and bathrooms, I have installed radiant flooring. There is a looping system of pipes that are concealed beneath the floor. The hot water travels through these pipes, warming up the floor. The entire system is setup with zone control so that each room can be adjusted to an independent temperature. This allows personalized comfort and avoids the energy waste of heating empty rooms. The boiler is also linked to my water heater, which saves me money and ensures an unending supply hot water. A few years ago, when we put in a swimming pool, we connected the boiler. The boiler heats my home in the winter and keeps the swimming pool nice and warm in the summer. My next goal is to install a snowmelt system beneath the floor of the garage and under the driveway and sidewalks. The boiler would provide heat that would melt away snow and ice and eliminate the need to shovel.
